There is an important update for students appearing in JEE Main 2026. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the deadline for photo verification for a group of candidates. This update mainly affects candidates whose uploaded photograph did not match their identity document during application checking.
Students should read the details carefully and complete the required steps within the given time.
Why Has NTA Issued This Advisory?
While checking JEE Main 2026 application forms, NTA found that in some cases, the photograph uploaded in the form did not match the ID proof. Because of this mismatch, additional verification became necessary before the exam.
This issue was noticed mainly among non-Aadhaar candidates, which led NTA to introduce a separate verification process.
New Deadline for JEE Main 2026 Photo Verification
NTA has now allowed more time for affected candidates to complete photo verification.
The new last date to finish this process is 15 January 2026.
Candidates who fall under this category have already received a separate upload link on their registered email ID.
What Do Affected Candidates Need to Do?
Candidates facing the photo mismatch issue must:
- Open the verification link sent to their registered email
- Upload the required certificate in PDF format
- Take a printout of the uploaded certificate
- Carry the printed certificate to the exam centre for checking on exam day
This step is compulsory for candidates who received the verification email.
Change in Attestation Rules for Certificate
Earlier, NTA had asked candidates to get the certificate signed by the principal or head of the school/college. However, many students reported difficulty in reaching their institutions.
After reviewing these concerns, NTA has updated the rules.
Now, candidates can get the certificate attested by:
- Class-I Gazetted Officers, such as:
- Tahsildar
- Revenue Officer
- Sub-Divisional Magistrate
- District Collector
For Indian candidates living abroad, the certificate can be attested by a Class-I Gazetted Officer at the Indian Embassy.
JEE Main 2026 Session 1 Exam and City Slip Update
The JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam will be held from 21 January to 30 January 2026.
Before the exam, NTA will release the city intimation slip on the official website jeemain.nta.nic.in.
This slip will inform candidates about the exam city in advance. It can be downloaded using the application number and password.
Important Advice for Candidates
Candidates who received the photo verification email should not delay the process. Missing the extended deadline may create problems at the examination centre.
Students are also advised to:
- Check their registered email regularly
- Visit the official JEE Main website for updates
- Keep all documents ready well before the exam date
Conclusion
The extension of the JEE Main 2026 photo verification deadline gives relief to candidates facing document mismatch issues. Affected students must complete the upload process by 15 January 2026 and carry the required certificate to the exam centre. With the exam dates approaching soon, staying updated through the official website and following instructions carefully will help avoid last-minute issues.
